Brief biography
Zair Z. Shamsiev graduated from the Tashkent Aviation Technical College (1965) and Tashkent State Technical University (TSTU, 1971), majoring in Aircraft Engineering. Concurrently he completed training at the Tashkent and Atkarsk Aviation Training Centers (Russia), qualifying as a helicopter pilot with the rank of Second Lieutenant.
From 1971 to 1983 he was a research trainee, postgraduate student, and associate professor at the Department of Aircraft Manufacturing Technology, TSTU. In 1979, he defended his Candidate of Sciences dissertation in the specialty "Technology of Aircraft and Engine Manufacturing" at the Kharkov Aviation Institute named after N. E. Zhukovsky.
In 1982–1983he was awarded a research fellowship at the University of Rome (Italy). From 1983 to 1995 he was a senior and leading researcher, and head of the Laboratory of Production and Technological Systems Modeling at the Institute of Cybernetics, Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. In 1991, he defended his Doctor of Sciences dissertation in the specialty "Automated Control Systems" at the Kyiv Institute of Cybernetics named after V. M. Glushkov.
From 1995 to 2008 he was the head of the Research and Development Bureau of GAO "TAPOiCh" and Vice-Rector for Research at the Tashkent State Aviation Institute (TSAI). From 2008 to 2021 he was a professor at the Department of Aircraft Manufacturing Technology, Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, TSTU. Since 2021 Zair Z. Shamsiev has been a professor at the Department of Air Navigation Systems, Tashkent State Transport University.
Zair Z. Shamsiev is the author of more than 180 scientific publications, 3 monographs, 3 textbooks, a study guide, and more than 15 instructional manuals; contributed to the Uzbek National Encyclopedia. He has supervised 15 Candidates and 3 Doctors of Technical Sciences, and continues to provide academic supervision to doctoral candidates. From 2009 to 2013, he led four international projects under European Union research and education programs; the outcomes have been incorporated into undergraduate and graduate curricula in the aerospace field.
