Short biography. In 1984 he graduated from the Maurice Thorez Moscow State Teacher Training Institute of Foreign Languages, majoring in “Foreign Languages,” with the qualification of “Translator-Interpreter in German and English.” From 1984 to 1986 he worked at the S.M. Kirov Astrakhan State Teacher Training Institute. From 1987 to 1989, he pursued full-time postgraduate studies at the Department of German Grammar and History at the Maurice Thorez Moscow State Teacher Training Institute of Foreign Languages. In May 1989 he defended his Candidate of Sciences (PhD) dissertation titled “Functional Grammar of the German Language in the GDR and the FRG” (10.02.04 – Germanic Languages). From 1989 to 1995, he worked at the Ulyanovsk branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University as Head of Department, Dean, and Vice-Rector-Organizer of the Russian-American College. In 1995, he moved to Moscow and worked at the Lenin Moscow State Teacher Training University. From 1996 to 2012, he worked at Moscow City Teacher Training University as Head of Department, Head of the Institute of Foreign Languages, and Vice-Rector. In 1998, he defended his Doctor of Sciences dissertation titled “Language as World-Creation: The Neo-Humboldtian Language Philosophy” (10.02.04 – Germanic Languages; 10.02.19 – Theory of Language). From 2012 to 2015 and from 2016 to 2024, he served as Full Professor at the Department of General and Comparative Linguistics at Moscow State Linguistic University. From 2015 to 2018, he was Head of the Center for Language Didactics, Language Testing, and Migration Policy Support at the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute. From January 2024 to April 2024, he served as Guest Professor at the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies at Conestoga College (Kitchener, Canada). Since November 2022, he has been a lecturer at the Berlitz Educational Corporation (USA). Since May 2025 to the present, he has been a lecturer at the “Graybridge Malkam” Educational Corporation (Canada). Honored Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation; Distinguished Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation; Honorary Citizen of the State of Oklahoma (USA); recipient of grants from the Moscow Department of Education, the German Research Foundation, and others. Author and co-author of more than 200 educational and scholarly publications, including three German-language teaching series for Russian schools; monographs “Language as World-Creation” and “Humboldtian Traditions in the German Philosophy of Language”; and translator into Russian of poetic works by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, August von Platen, and German Romantic poets.
