Short Biography. In 1980, Nelia S. Ivanova graduated from the St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo, majoring in Russian Philology and Bulgarian Philology. In 1994, she graduated from Plovdiv University, majoring in English Philology. She began her academic career as an assistant lecturer at St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo. Since 1984, she has held successive positions as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and, from 2013, Professor at Asen Zlatarov University in Burgas. In 2000, she defended her dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Philological Sciences (PhD equivalent) at the State Institute of the Russian Language and Literature (Moscow, Russia). She has two academic specializations: “General and Comparative Linguistics” (2007, Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria) and “Slavic Languages (Modern Russian Language)” (2012, Asen Zlatarov University, Burgas). She is the author of over 150 scientific publications in the fields of contrastive linguistics, derivational semantics of the Russian language, and conceptology, as well as the author and co-author of six textbooks. She is the compiler and editor of three international poetry anthologies featuring works by Bulgarian and Russian students (2013, 2014, 2016). She served as Chair of the Jury for the International Festival of Russian-Language Arts in Bulgaria (2012–2015). She has been a member of two research projects at Asen Zlatarov University devoted to the legacy of Leo Tolstoy’s followers in Bulgaria (2003, 2004). She is a member of academic dissertation councils in the field of linguistics in Bulgaria. She acts as a dissertation supervisor and academic advisor for doctoral theses, master’s theses, and diploma papers. She is a member of the following international academic organizations: IpRA, MAPRYAL (International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature), and the Society of Russianists in Bulgaria.
