Проанализированы результаты проведенного анкетирования обучающихся первого и третьего курсов по их готовности к работе с академическим письмом. Выдвинут и обоснован тезис о том, что аннотация является одним из наиболее оптимальных средств обучения иноязычной письменной научной речи. Предложены рекомендации по организации работы с аннотациями, приводятся примеры учебных материалов и методических приемов, используемых автором на занятиях по иностранному языку в Иркутском филиале Московского государственного технического университета гражданской авиации (ИФ МГТУ ГА).</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The paper deals with the issues of teaching non-linguistic specialty students to write abstracts for scientific papers as a component of academic writing skills. The paper presents the results of a survey conducted among first- and third-year students showing their selfassessment of academic writing skills. The author proposes and validates a thesis that an abstract is one of the most effective means for forming academic writing skills.
